Getting things going is sometimes a slow process in Central Asia. Heck, it’s a slow process everywhere. But every now and then, things happen extremely fast. We met our new friend and fellow designer Samat 'S@M' Barataliev on a Monday night in Bishkek, hooked up by a thoughtful couchsurfer. Thanks for that, Selbi. Next evening, Samat gets 10 designers together to meet the IDEA NOMADS at the Childrens Media Center, a cool place with a surprisingly good beamer. The IDEA NOMADS's ppt presentation never looked better. We talk about design and nomadism. We ask about Kyrgyzstan. They ask about design methods, processes and sources of inspiration. They complain about the lack of information and education in Kyrgyzstan. And most of all, they want to hear more. Before we know it, we have a 2-day workshop planned for the following weekend. Just like that. Way to go, guys – that’s how it should happen. However... there were several beards in the crowd, but where were the girls? Hope to see you at the workshop.
