the IDEA NOADS have entered nomad territory. What could be a better place to talk about nomadic trends than in Kazakhstan, once the territory of pastoral nomads? So we gathered a small creative crowd of artists and designers at the Soros Center for Contemporary Art in Almaty to get a grip on the Kazakhstan vibe. We did not come unprepared: we had already spotted a nomadic chocolate box in
the shape of a traditional tent from the local candy factory. Question of the day: what other influences from nomadic life can be seen in modern design? Well, except from the traditional patterns
which can be found all over, nobody could come up with any obvious examples. Think again, guys, and let us know – or create a nomadic design of your own... Later the same week however, we found a new
kind of nomadic space in Kazakhstan: the shipping containers which are used all over as storing spaces, homes, shops or restaurants.
This was our first event with translation, sorry guys that our Russian is not so good yet. We’re working on it. Special thanks to Gaisha, Aygul and Dastan who helped arranging the event.
